Toyoshima & Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Hanshichi Toyoshima, Nagoya City Naka-ku ) has started a collaborative initiative with WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Japan to preserve the global environment and spread sustainable fashion. This is the first collaboration with WWF JAPAN a Japanese fashion company to do so, and we will promote water stewardship and the procurement of sustainable materials in the future.

◆Background and background of collaboration on sustainable global standards

Amid growing social interest in environmental pollution represented by plastic waste and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the fashion industry is also facing issues to shift to sustainable production and consumption.

TOYOSHIMA has been comprehensively developing its business, including the trading of apparel fabrics and raw materials, and the planning of final products, and has handled natural fibers that reduce environmental impact. In addition, we have continuously developed sustainable projects such as "Orgavitz", one of the largest organic cotton promotion projects in Japan, and food textiles that reuse waste food. In this way, TOYOSHIMA has been committed to sustainable management for many years.

WWF JAPAN is an environmental conservation organization active in more than 100 countries around the world. We are developing projects around the world aimed at preserving the natural environment such as forests and the sea, and the sustainable use of natural resources. The TOYOSHIMA and WWF JAPAN are now working together to promote sustainable global standards in the textile industry.

In the future, with the aim of spreading the word throughout the fashion industry, we will improve the use of water and strengthen the procurement of sustainable materials based on the abundant achievements and knowledge of WWF JAPAN.

Specifically, 1. We will promote water stewardship" and 2. Set our own improvement targets for the procurement of sustainable textile materials in cooperation with WWF JAPAN.

In addition, in order to expand the number of fashion products that meet the conditions as sustainable materials, we will carry out projects and events involving multiple fashion brands in WWF JAPAN and TOYOSHIMA.

◆ About the contents of collaborative efforts

1. Water Stewardship Initiatives

We will set a target fiscal year to share and understand water risk issues related to water use, chemical substance use, and wastewater within TOYOSHIMA, manufacturing contractors, and partner companies, and promote improvement activities in cooperation. Currently, we plan to: (1) Awareness-raising seminars to be held in-house in TOYOSHIMA, (2) Questionnaires to the relevant factories will be conducted sequentially, (3) Surveys to grasp the actual state of environmental impact, and (4) Preparation of improvement action plans.

2. Initiatives related to naturally-derived raw materials

We have set targets for the procurement of naturally derived materials used in products and ancillary materials that are traceable and have been certified sustainably, and will continue to make efforts and dissemination and awareness activities throughout the supply chain.

Based on the statement "MY WILL," which expresses our stance on sustainability, we will strengthen our sustainable materials and products business to preserve the global environment and expand our sustainable fashion business.

Through a partnership with Nihon Kankyo Sekkei, we produce recycled polyester from unnecessary textile products.
