■ What is the Beach Collection PET Bottle Recycling Project?
Shimoda City, Shimoda LSC, and SHIPS have launched the SHIPS SAFE & CLEAN Campaign (hereinafter referred to as the SSC Campaign), an activity aimed at protecting the environment and protecting the sea in the summer, based on the idea of "protecting the beautiful sea of Shimoda." has been implemented for 27 years. As part of the SSC campaign, the beach will be opened from July 16th (Sat) to August 28th (Sun), 2022. During the period, the beach will be announced at a fixed time every afternoon, and only lifesavers will be asked to clean the beach. In addition, swimmers will also carry out a "clean campaign" to pick up trash on the beach. We will use the PET bottles in the garbage collected by this "Clean Campaign" to utilize the mechanism of "UpDRIFT®" to make apparel, accessories, and other resources.
The "Beach Collection PET Bottle Recycling Project" is a series of processes from picking up trash at the beach to collecting PET bottles, and utilizing resources for apparel and accessories.

▲The “Clean Campaign” was carried out with the cooperation of not only beach lifesavers but also swimmers to pick up trash on the beach. The PET bottles in the garbage are reused as resources for clothing products by utilizing the mechanism of "UpDRIFT®, which collects drifted PET bottles and turns them into resources."
■ "Make the beautiful sea of Shimoda more beautiful," with the feeling that you and I are one of the friends who protect the beautiful sea.
The "Seaside Collection PET Bottle Recycling Project" creates opportunities for people to realize that "protecting Shimoda's beautiful sea is their responsibility." About 500,000 people (number of visitors to Shimoda City beach in 2018) visit the beach in Shimoda City in the summer and enjoy the beautiful beach and coastal environment. The "beauty" of Shimoda's sea is made possible through the cooperation of many people, including local residents, local businesses, lifesaving clubs, and surfing organizations.
We hope that everyone who visits the beach in Shimoda this summer will enjoy the beautiful sea with the TOYOSHIMA that "I am one of the people who cooperate in protecting the beautiful sea of Shimoda." We will cooperate in the implementation of

What is SHIPS SAFE & CLEAN CAMPAIGN?
During the summer swimming season, the "Safe & Clean Campaign" is held by SHIPS and Shimoda Life Saving Club at each beach in Shimoda. This year marks the 27th year since the event started in 1996, and the popular event "Junior Lifesaving Experience" is held again this year. Participants can learn the knowledge and methods to safely enjoy the sea in summer, and experience beach cleaning activities with lifesavers. A program is available. It has been held for many years with the hope that through this activity, it will be possible to foster "safe ways to play in the sea" and "consideration for people and the environment."

■ What is UpDRIFT?
This is an initiative to recycle PET bottles and other items collected on the beach and bring them back to life as new products with low environmental impact. PET bottles, etc. are collected through beach cleanup activities conducted in collaboration with local activity groups, local governments, companies, etc., and are sorted and washed before being recycled and turned into products. This will lead to the protection of the irreplaceable natural environment.
