First Presentation of Commercialization Seeds to Solve Social Issues Born from Endowed Research with the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo

Toyoshima & Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Hanshichi Toyoshima, Nagoya City Naka-ku In 2018, the Institute of Industrial Science (Director: Toru Okabe, Komaba, Meguro-ku, Tokyo) began donating to the Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo, and Professor Tomoya Yashiro was appointed as a specially appointed professor (concurrently TOYOSHIMA The Lifestyle Endowed Research Division (hereinafter referred to as the "Research Division") was established. This year, three years since its establishment, the Toyoshima Virtual Pavilion, the first virtual exhibition that showcases visions and concepts based on the 11 prototypes created so far, will be held from Thursday, October 28. On Thursday, October 28, the first day of the event, a talk event "Toyoshima Virtual Pavilion: Treasure Hunting in the Utokyo-IIS" will be held online to look back on the three years of this research division.



■About the TOYOSHIMA Lifestyle Endowed Research Division
This research division was established for three years from October 1, 2018 as a research program to search for commercialization seeds (seeds) that contribute to solving issues facing the fashion industry and society from the basic and applied research of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, based on donations from our company to the Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo, and to explore the path to practical application and commercialization.

Over the past three years, we have Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo We have supported and promoted 11 research projects, including interdisciplinary collaborative research with 8 different engineering laboratories. The purpose of each project is to create new products and services by applying advanced engineering research, and to propose visions and concepts through prototyping (prototyping).
At the Toyoshima Virtual Pavilion, a virtual exhibition to be held, visitors can see a showcase that summarizes the visions and concepts of these 11 research projects.

In the future, Toyoshima & Co., Ltd. aims to commercialize products and services based on the visions and concepts proposed in these 11 research projects, and is looking for operating companies and start-up companies that can cooperate in joint development.

This is a proposal for smart clothing that can attach and detach the necessary biological information sensors according to diseases and symptoms.

・IN PRAISE OF SHADOWS
Wataru Takeuchi Laboratory
This is a proposal for a service that uses satellite data to observe and experience the changing current state of forests on the earth.

・MATRA
Masaharu Takeuchi Laboratory
This is a proposal for a biodegradable robot using artificial muscles that supports the role of organisms called keystone species that protect ecosystems.

・PROBES
Shunsuke Yagi Laboratory
It is a proposal of paper batteries that are not bound by shape or size. Conductive ink can be printed on paper and is easy to dispose.

From 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, an online talk event "Toyoshima Virtual Pavilion: Treasure Hunting in the Utokyo-IIS" will be held to commemorate the opening of the virtual exhibition.
Kazuhisa Mizoguchi, a Toyoshima & Co., Ltd. who is in charge of this project, and participated in this research division. Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo teachers look back on their efforts over the past three years.
