Toyoshima & Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Hanshichi Toyoshima, Nagoya City Naka-ku The organic cotton brand "Orgavitz" was adopted for the first time in bags used as original goods of Doshisha University's "The Institute for the Liberal Arts (ILA)".

◆ Orgabits was adopted for the first time from the international and environmental perspective of Doshisha University ILA, which promotes international education

ILA is a curriculum at Doshisha University in which international students from various countries and regions and Japanese students study together in English across six humanities departments, and it is an original initiative to promote internationalism. Also, in 2018, Doshisha University recognized that the conservation of the global environment is one of the most important issues shared by all humankind, and made an "Environmental Declaration" stating that the entire organization will make efforts to reduce environmental impact and protect the environment. was enacted.

This time, the social value of organic cotton has been recognized from the international point of view of ILA and the point of view of environmental protection, which has been increasing in recent years. We have adopted "Orgabits", which is expanding as a social contribution that we can participate in on a daily basis. Organic cotton is used for original novelty cloth bags that are used and distributed at domestic and international recruiting fairs held throughout the year.

Until now, Orgabits has been mainly developed in Japan, but we believe that it is necessary to convey the importance of organic cotton across borders. For the first time, we have supported bilingual notation. In the future, we will gradually switch all tags to bilingual notation with a view to expanding overseas.

This bag is made with 10% Orgabits and has a logo printed in Doshisha University's school color, Royal Purple, which is an intermediate color between Japanese ancient purple and Edo purple. In addition, 1 yen from each bag will be donated to the Orgabits Fund, which will be used to support organic cotton farmers in India.

In the future, Orgabits will not only transcend brand boundaries, but also strengthen collaboration across industries, including universities, and promote initiatives that can contribute to social and environmental issues.

■ Doshisha University Institute for International Education (ILA)

In July 2009, Doshisha University was selected as one of the core universities in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Global 30" project. As a result, the university's international education, based on the founding spirit of the founder, Jo Niijima, entered a phase of great leap forward, and since then has strengthened its efforts. As a result, the number of foreign students accepted has greatly exceeded the target number, and the number of overseas partner universities has increased, expanding international exchange and educational cooperation. An increase in the number of students is steadily showing results.
Against this backdrop, in April 2011, as a new challenge, the Institute for the Liberal Arts was established, allowing students to obtain a degree solely through subjects taught in English. This is Doshisha University's original educational curriculum, in which international students from various countries and regions and Japanese students study across six liberal arts faculties.

■What is Orgabits?
Organic cotton diffusion project in which the largest number of apparel brands in Japan participates

About 15% of the world's pesticides and about 7% of the pesticides used* are used* in the cultivation of cotton, which is used as a raw material for clothing. Environmental and social issues are intertwined. On the other hand, organic cotton is cotton that has been organically grown on farmland that has not used pesticides or chemical fertilizers for more than three years. The widespread use of organic cotton is expected to reduce the use of conventional cotton cultivation methods and improve the problems in the world's growing regions.

"Orgabits" is an organic cotton spread project that started in 2006 with the idea that everyone should contribute "a little bit" to the global environment and producers. In order to facilitate the use and spread of organic cotton, about 100 brands are currently participating, with a cumulative total of 684, based on the "reversal idea" of delivering 100% of the product to 100 times the number of people, regardless of the amount of 100% used in one garment. We produce over 10,000 items. The activity has expanded to support farmers in the country of origin and NPO corporations, and the circle of social contribution activities that can be participated in on a daily basis through one piece of clothing is also expanding.
