It will be installed for three years from October 1, 2018.
In this research division, we search for the seeds of technology that contribute to solving the problems faced by the fashion industry and society from the basic and applied research of the engineering department of the University of Tokyo, and repeat trial production (prototyping). We will proceed with research to explore the path to practical application and commercialization.

2. Presentations:
Lifestyles are diversifying, and artificial intelligence and IoT are causing major changes in the conventional relationship between people and things.
In the fashion industry, it is no longer possible to grasp changes in consumption in the context of fashion, and in order to further develop the industry, it is necessary to carefully examine events related to consumers' lives and daily behaviors, and to reconsider lifestyles as a whole.
In a similar situation in manufacturing in general, ISKEN believes that the key to innovation lies in "design that brings new value and affluence to people," and established the "Value Creation Design Promotion Platform" in December 2017.
This research division will utilize the know-how and humanities knowledge of this foundation, and with the support of TOYOSHIMA, will grasp the needs of not only the fashion industry but also markets related to lifestyles such as medical care, nursing care, and health, and promote efforts to raise the seeds of technology that will sprout "Society 5.0" to the business stage.
In particular, we aim to create new value in a wide range of people's lives, from materials such as smart textiles to services including IoT around daily life.
We will actively disseminate the results of this research division and strive to contribute to further industry-academia collaboration.
■TOYOSHIMA Lifestyle Endowment Research Division
Location: Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo
Established in 1949 with the mission of "taking up the actual problems of technology and comprehensively researching and putting each specialized knowledge to practical use," it is one of the largest university-affiliated research institutes in Japan, and has developed as an education and research organization responsible for the development and education of "Industrial Science" related to "creation." In order to promote research and development in cooperation with industry, the research field covers a wide range from basic engineering to applied technology, and in addition to joint research with the private sector, commissioned research, and exchanges with researchers and engineers, we utilize donations and funds from the private sector, etc., and invite specially appointed professors from outside to establish endowed research divisions and social collaboration research divisions, etc., as an open research institute. We aim to advance engineering research and return the results of our research to society.
