Toyoshima & Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Shinichi TOYOSHIMA, Headquarters: Nagoya City Naka-ku), MN Interfashion Co., Ltd., Goat Co., Ltd., and Sekiko Logi NEXT Co., Ltd. launched a "joint transportation" initiative in March 2025 using domestic ferries from Sekiko Logi NEXT Co., Ltd. group companies.
This initiative aims to review the conventional logistics system that relied on trucking for products such as apparel and miscellaneous goods, and promote a modal shift in shipping transportation.
By combining international and domestic ferries for intermodal transportation, we aim to build a sustainable logistics system by simultaneously reducing CO₂ emissions, shortening drivers' working hours, and improving transportation efficiency.
The four companies formed an alliance to consolidate cargo imported from China to Kanto at Shimonoseki Port, and carried out "joint transportation" through trunk line transportation from Shimonoseki Port to Yokosuka Port to transit points in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Most of the main line transportation is handled by Tokyo Kyushu Ferry of the Sekiko Logi NEXT Group. As of the end of October, the cargo pooled by the three trading companies was equivalent to approximately 68 10-ton trucks, and by switching to maritime transportation, we estimated that we had achieved a reduction in CO₂ emissions of approximately 102 tons (*1).
This initiative started with "joint transportation" centered on trunk transportation to the Tokyo metropolitan area, but we are also working on the realization of "joint delivery" that consistently delivers to the destination with higher logistics efficiency. While verifying and improving the effects of the modal shift, each company will expand cooperation with trading companies and business partners of other companies in the same industry, further expand the circle of joint transportation and delivery, and contribute to improving the efficiency of the industry as a whole and reducing environmental impact.
*1 Based on the calculation method of the "Guidelines for Calculation Methods for CO2 Emissions in the Logistics Sector" by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, CO2 emissions per unit in the conventional ton-kilometer: 216 (g-CO2/t-km) for land transportation and 43 (g-CO2/t-km) for maritime transport.
