In January 2022, TOYOSHIMA launched a project called "WAMEGURI" to recirculate discarded clothing in Japan Japan, thinking that it would be possible to take part in the responsibility for the 66%*1 of clothing that is disposed of, given the background of producing 2~3% of the apparel products supplied by Japan. In this project, clothing is collected in Japan, sorted and spun at factories in Japan except for some processes, and recycled through this process is recirculated.

To coincide with Mercari's large-scale Black Friday Black Friday and the Western movement to raise awareness of sustainable consumption, the "Mercari Green Friday Project 2024 ~Fashion Festival with Zero New Releases~" will be held for three days from Friday, November 22, 2024 to Sunday, November 24, 2024. It is a festival that proposes a way to enjoy sustainable fashion by utilizing the reuse, repair, and upcycling of clothes. There will be a "Sustainable Fashion Show with Zero New Releases," a barter booth "Bing One Get One Free" where customers can bring in clothes they no longer need and exchange them for what they want, and a booth where customers can experience upcycling and repairing clothes that can still be worn. At each event and booth, items collected from clothing collections conducted by Mercari and the Renovation Studio from October 11 to November 8 will be used.
※2… Green Friday is an initiative that aims to raise awareness of sustainable consumption that is friendly to the global environment, such as using things carefully for a long time, against excessive consumption represented by Black Friday (the Friday after the fourth Thursday in November), when large-scale sales are held. In Europe, where efforts are taking the lead in this area, at the same time as Black Friday, workshops are held to change unwanted clothes and to teach people to repair and continue to use things.
TOYOSHIMA is participating in this event as a partner company for the first time. If event participants bring their homes or homes that can still be used to the venue, they will be able to exchange reused items provided by apparel-related companies and items collected in advance at the venue at the "Bing One Get One Free" barter booth, as well as clothing that could not be fully utilized at each booth in the pre-collection. Under the scheme of the "WAMEGURI" project, we will collect it, return it to fiber, and recycle it.
In the future, the WAMEGURI Project will continue to aim to reincarnate discarded clothing into new items and recirculate it through collaboration with everyone.
About the WAMEGURI Project

The "WAMEGURI" project is a project to collect four materials, including PET bottles and clothing made of cotton, wool, and feathers, and sort and spin them at factories in Japan, with the exception of some processes, to transform them into new items. We aim to recirculate products that have been remanufactured through this process.
In addition to these four materials, we will work with you to create a system to recirculate unnecessary materials from our daily lives.
