The Sakura Tree Avenue Project is an activity to plant cherry trees at the destination of the tsunami that occurred in Tohoku during the Great East Japan Earthquake.
This time, the popular brand "UA Outlets" (United Arrows Outlets) developed by UNITED ARROWS Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Mitsuhiro Takeda, Jingumae, Shibuya-ku) will release a collaboration product to support the "Sakura Namiki Project".
This men's collaboration product was jointly planned by members of the Sendai store, who actually planted sakura trees in the "Jusanhama Oiwa District" (*) in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture on Sunday, March 22 of this year. Each member reconsidered the earthquake disaster and thought about everything from design to planning, including what they could do for reconstruction and what they could do to convey through clothes.
The large print design on the sweatshirt is designed with the message "Memory rather than record" with the meaning that always leaving the feelings you had at the time of the earthquake as a memory of each individual will lead to reconstruction in the true sense of the word. In addition, the line of the border drawn means "connection", and it was designed so that by crossing the shoulders, it connects to one line.
This product will be released sequentially at UA outlet stores nationwide from Saturday, September 5, 2015. In addition, we will put a hang tag on the collaboration products and donate 10 yen for each product to the "Sakura Namiki Project".
* "Jusanhama Oiha District" is located in the Jusanhama district of Kitakami-cho, Ishinomaki City, which was severely damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake, and is a district for several households that have rebuilt their homes and those who plan to relocate.
■What is the "Ogavitz Project" developed by Toyoshima & Co., Ltd.?
The organic cotton promotion project in which the largest number of apparel brands in the Japan participate. With the idea of "reversal" to deliver 100% products to 100 times more people without sticking to 100% organic cotton, about 90 brands are currently participating and producing about 900,000 items a year. These activities have expanded to support farmers and NPOs in the country of origin, and the circle is expanding as a social contribution activity where people can participate in fashionable clothes through a single piece of clothing.
Cotton produced by conventional cultivation methods contains about 15% of the insecticides and 7% of pesticides used around the world (*Source: Textile Exchange), and contains various problems such as soil contamination and environmental problems. Organic cotton, on the other hand, refers to organically grown cotton on farmland that has not used any pesticides or chemical fertilizers for more than three years. The growing demand for organic cotton is expected to reduce the use of conventional cotton cultivation methods and improve the above problems.

The Great East Japan Earthquake, which struck suddenly on March 11, 2011, became a catastrophe that left more than 20,000 people dead or missing. The Tohoku region has experienced many major disasters caused by tsunamis in the past, but unfortunately we were unable to make use of the lessons learned and caused unprecedented damage. Looking back on history, a major tsunami always comes to Sanriku once every 100 years. It is necessary to pass on the story of this massive tsunami from generation to generation, and to make efforts to ensure that the damage never fades away. In the hope that it will serve as a "evacuation" goal in the event of a major tsunami predicted in the future and play a role in protecting the residents, we decided to plant cherry blossoms at the destination of the tsunami to create a memorable row of cherry blossom trees. The "Sakura Tree Avenue Project" was launched by the strong desire of the people of Tohoku to plant cherry trees and the volunteers involved in flowers. We started planting trees in the spring of 2012, and have planted about 3,500 cherry trees in Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate prefectures to date.
