Railways are treated as important cultural icons in many countries. Railways in Japan have a history of more than 150 years and have evolved independently, and the design of railways, such as vehicles and route maps, has also undergone unique changes over time. The collaboration between the three companies was started with the idea that by incorporating railway IP (Intellectual Property) such as historic vehicles and route maps in the JR West Japan area into fashion items, and giving it a stylish image as well as a traditional image, the collaboration between the three companies will lead to a wider range of people enjoying the railway.
TOYOSHIMA is expanding the creativity and possibilities of fashion through the development of a system in which generative AI automatically creates thousands of patterns, and a system that allows users to dress up designs, fabrics, colors, and patterns on 3D three-dimensional models. In devising the design, we fused the AI data accumulated by TOYOSHIMA with products that DISCOVERED had released in the past, and created a new fashion item produced by DISCOVERED designer Tatsuya Kimura.
In the first product that will be the first collaboration, based on the concept of "every line has a story, and it runs on you now ~wearing the cityscape~", we have created hoodies designed by AI based on the visuals of lines in the JR West Japan area and sweatshirts inspired by the tracks. Prior to the sale in Japan, we had a test exhibit in Paris to coincide with the DISCOVERED exhibition at Paris Fashion Week held in Paris in June 2025. During the period, many people stopped by the booth and listened intently to the explanations about the products. The design is accepted as part of the fashion element not only by those who like railways, but also by those who are not interested in railways. We propose a new item called "Wearing a Railway".
